Section 8 Special Programs

FAMILY SELF-SUFFICIENCY PROGRAM
Located at 50 Laurel Hill Avenue, the Family Self-Sufficiency (FSS) Program helps public housing and Section 8 residents achieve economic independence through gainful employment. With the aid of a FSS Coordinator, program participants develop individualized five-year plans that help them move to work and increase their earned income while possibly building savings.

HOMEOWNERSHIP PROGRAM
The Homeownership Program allows qualifying Section 8 residents to use their voucher as a form of mortgage payment assistance on single-family homes. The PHA hosts bilingual orientations for prospective buyers. As of 2017 a total of 71 Section 8 residents have successfully purchased a home through this program.

VETERAN’S SUPPORTIVE HOUSING PROGRAM
The Veteran’s Supportive Housing (VASH) Program, a joint effort between the Department of Housing and Urban Development and the Veterans Administration (VA), allocates vouchers to housing authorities for Veterans and their families to live in market rate rental units while the VA provides case management services. Since 2008, the PHA receives annual allotments of VASH vouchers and currently administers a total of 209 VASH program vouchers.
