Providence - The Providence Housing Authority (PHA) announced today that it received five national Awards of Merit and is being considered for an Award of Excellence by the National Association of Housing and Redevelopment Officials NAHRO). The awards program gives national recognition to housing and community development agencies that develop innovative strategies designed to improve the lives of the residents that they serve and to improve the efficiency of administrative operations and maintenance. The Providence Housing Authority (PHA) is home for more than 5,700 residents. There are 13 public housing developments in Providence, including 6 family developments, 7 elderly/disabled high rises, and 246 scattered site homes. In addition, the PHA administers a Section 8 Program, which includes more than 2,500 households.
The PHA is consistently recognized as national leader in public housing. In the past ten years, the PHA has received many NAHRO Awards of Excellence, as well as several awards from the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD), and other federal, state, and local organizations.
